Black Bear Ursus americanus

Black Bear Conservation

Black Bears are currently doing well although they once were once declining in most parts of their original range. These population increases can be due to conservation efforts, local wildlife management and the creation of protected areas. The encroachment of humans into the Black Bears territory has in many areas led to pest or garbage scavenging behaviour.
