California Sea Lion Distribution Map

California Sea Lion Distribution Map

The California sea lion inhabits the west coast of North America. The subspecies Z. c. japonicus was extirpated from Japan. Male California sea lions roam to the north after breeding to British Columbia and small numbers as far west as the Pribilof Islands in Alaska. Japanese sea lions once ranged the south coast of Kamchatka, the Sea of Japan to western Korea (Reeves et al. 2002).
