Northwestern Crow Corvus caurinus

Northwestern Crow Science

Much of the pioneering research on the northwestern crow was conducted on Mitlenatch Island, British Columbia by now retired professor Nico Verbeek, Rob Butler and Howie Richardson at Simon Fraser University.  Mitlenatch Island is a 35 ha rocky islet used as a nesting site for thousands of glaucous-winged gulls, hundreds of cormorants, a few pairs of black oystercatchers, and a roost site for hundreds of harlequin ducks. The island is located in northern Strait of Georgia about 100 km northwest of Vancouver. Permission from BC Parks is required to conduct research on the island.
