Pacific White-sided Dolphin Lagenorhynchus obliquidens

Pacific White-sided Dolphin Conservation

The Pacific white-sided dolphin was the most frequently caught marine mammal in the squid high seas drift net fishery in the 1980s. The incidental catch has declined since a United Nations moratorium on drift net fisheries in 1993. In Canada, the species is not considered at risk because large numbers are often seen in coastal waters, although estimates of the number of Pacific white-sided dolphins have a great uncertainty (Stacey and Baird 1991). There are likely tens or hundreds of thousands of individuals.
